Colorado whitewater, Dolores River

Mesa county, Gateway to Colorado River section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS II+(IV)     30 miles
The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Grand Junction, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. The average Colorado whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be harder to run than those in other states, so better not forget that the rivers in this state are less manageable. The nature scenery of Colorado and the water flowing gracefully down Dolores River beats anything. There are plenty of other sections
in this river system that can be paddled as well. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of places for that. The Gateway to
Colorado River section of Dolores River in Mesa County is 30 miles long and it is classified as a class II+(IV) section by American Whitewater. A bit of exercise and spending some quality time in nature will have you coming back for more. A section like this is is of course not run in a single day, so better bring your camping gear along.
