Colorado whitewater, Eagle River Eagle county, Edwards to Eagle section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS II-III     17.4 miles   The Edwards to Eagle stretch of Eagle River in Eagle County is 17.4 miles long and is a class II-III section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often tougher than in other states, so better not forget that a large number of rivers in this state are not easy. There are plenty of other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well. When you're paddling     down a Sawatch Range river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. This section is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so why not pack your sleeping bag too. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just hanging out with mother nature will have you coming back for more. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way there are lots of good places for that around here. The nature   scenery of Eagle County and the cool fresh water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. The starting point is not too far from Edwards, as you can see on the road map further down. Briefly about the general area: Lots of folks from Wolcott come to Eagle River, and if you like skiing, you're in luck; Beaver Creek is pretty near. So many cool things to do in the Sawatch Range, not sufficient time. There is a wonderful hiking trail in the vicinity of Eagle River called the Salt Creek Trail, and Sylvan State Park is a good spot to go. This river has so much to offer.
