This stretch of Elk River is 8 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class III section. The beauty of the Park Range is a great plus for this river. The scenic beauty of Colorado and the playfulness of the water will make you feel great. This river system has a few good paddling sections and the     Box Canyon Campground to Glen Eden Bridge section is one of them. Getting some good exercise and just being out on the river for a while are great attractions for lots of people. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this area has a pretty small number of paddling spots. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Colorado are harder than the national norm, so keep in mind that rivers here are not as easy as elsewhere. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby.   This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, good for a one day paddling trip. Briefly about the general area: Going to Pearl Lake State Park close to Elk River is a good thing to do, and Elk River is a place with many visitors from Clark. Yep, outdoors enjoyable stuff truly is bountiful here in the Park Range. Hiking is a popular thing to do around Elk River; Coulton Creek Trail is a fine local trail. A trip to Routt National Forest when you're here at Elk River is never a bad idea, and why not take a refreshing hike along the Chilton Trail. Gotta ski! Howelsen Hill is a pleasant location to do that.
