Colorado whitewater, Fryingpan River

Eagle county, Upper section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS IV-V     5.7 miles
The scenic beauty of Eagle County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are reasons enough to come here and paddle. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Colorado tend to be more challenging than the national average, so better not forget that many runs in this state are not easy. The Upper section of Fryingpan River is 5.7 miles long and it is classified as a class IV-V section by American Whitewater. The starting
location is a short drive from Edwards, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. There are a few other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well. Getting your paddling
muscles activated and spending some quality time in nature are sure to keep you coming back for more. The campgrounds here at Fryingpan River are pretty good. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good spots for that around here. The river
winds through the Sawatch Range and you get great scenery. This is a pretty decent length section, good for a one day paddling trip.

Briefly about the general area:
There are plenty of folks from Meredith here at Fryingpan River, and on a great day you can take a hike along the Sawyer Lake Trail. These mountains rock, just check out all the entertaining stuff to do in the Sawatch Range. When you're here at Fryingpan River it's always fun to explore Sylvan State Park; you'll never forgive yourself if you don’t go skiing at Snowmass if you're here. This is such a wonderful river.
