  The scenic beauty of Colorado and the water flowing gracefully down Mineral Creek - South will make you feel great. The starting point is not too far from Durango, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. This section of Mineral Creek - South is 0.5 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class V+ section. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive
    a short distance then no problem but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. This is one of a small number of paddling stretches in this river system, there are a few others too. And of course,
there are campgrounds nearby. A bit of exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors have a lot of people coming here. This is a very short stretch so better bring some good walking shoes. The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Colorado are often more challenging than in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that the rivers in this state are less manageable.

Briefly about the general area:
 
Mineral Creek - South is right by the Brooklyn Trail, and Silverton is a fine local ski area. A tour to Snowslide Gulch is always fun; hiking along the Deer Park Trail is delightful fun. This river has so much to offer. Mineral Creek - South is not far at all from Silverton. At Mineral Creek - South you don’t see much rainfall. The month of August is the wettest with most of the rain, and June is the month with the least moisture. Throughout the months of summer highs here at Mineral Creek - South get into the 70's with overnight lows in the 40's. The cold days of the wintertime come with highs in the 30's while the cold winter nights at Mineral Creek - South are in the 0's.
