The starting point is not too far from Durango, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. This section of Mineral Creek - South is 0.5 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class V+ section. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive     a short distance then no problem but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. This is one of a small number of paddling stretches in this river system, there are a few others too. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. A bit of exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors have a lot of people coming here. This is a very short stretch so better bring some good walking shoes. The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Colorado are often more challenging than in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that the rivers in this state are less manageable. Briefly about the general area:   Mineral Creek - South is right by the Brooklyn Trail, and Silverton is a fine local ski area. A tour to Snowslide Gulch is always fun; hiking along the Deer Park Trail is delightful fun. This river has so much to offer. Mineral Creek - South is not far at all from Silverton.
