Colorado whitewater, Navajo River

Rio Arriba (NM) Archuleta county, Lower 25 miles to San Juan confluence section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS I-II     25 miles
The Lower 25 miles to San Juan confluence stretch of Navajo River in Colorado is 25 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class I-II section of whitewater. The nature scenery of Colorado and the cool fresh water attract people from near and far. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. If you have the time you can make this a two day trip, so why not pack your camp stove too. The average Colorado whitewater
rafting or kayaking river tends to be harder to run than those in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that a lot of the rivers here are not suitable for beginners. A good workout and spending some
quality time in nature have people coming from far and near. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you'll find a large number of good places. If you're coming from Durango it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, as you can see on the road map further down. Whitewater paddling here in the San Juan and Jemez Mountains is a great experience. This river system has a few good paddling stretches and the Lower
25 miles to San Juan confluence section is one of them. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick.

Briefly about the general area:
While you're here at Navajo River you will meet lots of people from nearby Dulce. Going for a hike along the Blanco River Trail will let you absorb the natural beauty of this neighborhood. Navajo River gets very little rainfall. During the month of August you get the most rain around here while June is regularly the driest month. High temperatures at Navajo River during the summer are in the 80's; the night is rather colder of course, frequently in the 40's.
