  The wonderful Pitkin/Garfield County scenery and the water flowing gracefully down Roaring Fork make the trip here worthwhile. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Edwards, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a large number of paddling rivers. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Colorado are harder than the national
    norm, so keep in mind that many of the sections here are not safe for beginners. This stretch has has enough mileage, it's perfect for a one day trip. There are nice comfortable hotels here, but you'd better reserve in advance
because these hotels fill up quick. The campgrounds here at Roaring Fork are pretty good. This stretch of Roaring Fork in Colorado is 6.2 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class II+(III) section. There are plenty of other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well.

Briefly about the general area:
Red Canyon is right next door to Roaring Fork and is a pleasant site; at Roaring Fork you always meet
 
someone from Glenwood Springs. Gotta ski! Sunlight Mountain is a tremendous location to do that. Through the long summer days here at Roaring Fork, high temperatures generally reach the 80's. Once the sun is down it descends down to the 50's. For the period of the wintertime this place gets highs in the 30's with temperatures at Roaring Fork dipping down into the 0's all through winter nights. It is very dried out here at Roaring Fork ordinarily. October is when you get the most rain here, and February on the other hand is the driest.
