Colorado whitewater, Roaring Fork

Pitkin county, Aspen to Upper Woody Creek Bridge section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS IV-V     4.5 miles
The put-in location is a short drive from Edwards, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. The Aspen to Upper Woody Creek Bridge section of Roaring Fork in Pitkin County is 4.5 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class IV-V section. The scenic beauty of Pitkin County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream attract people from near and far. There are so many sections
to paddle in this river system, the Aspen to Upper Woody Creek Bridge section is just one of many. Getting a good workout and just hanging out with mother nature will make you glad you came. Lodging is available near the
river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. This is a pretty decent length section, you can easily run it on an afternoon. The average Colorado whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be harder to run than those in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that rivers here are not as easy as elsewhere. Some people prefer
whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of places for that.

Briefly about the general area:
There are plenty of people from Woody Creek here at Roaring Fork, and Trentaz Gulch is positively a nice location to pop by. Skiing at Buttermilk is one of those things you just should do, and there are great sites to explore along the Sawyer Lake Trail. This is a really good river. Roaring Fork is a location that is relatively dry generally. The wettest month of the year is mostly April, that's the one that rains the most; June meanwhile is the driest month.
