  If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more demanding, so keep in mind that the rivers in this state are less manageable. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Edwards, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. The nature scenery of Pitkin County and the playfulness of the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. Whether you're
    whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find lots of paddling places. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. The Aspen Music School to Slaughterhouse Bridge stretch is
one of many paddling stretches in this river system. Getting your paddling muscles activated and a chance to spend some time outdoors will have you coming back for more. There are some good hotels near the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This is a pretty short section so no need to bring snacks.

Briefly about the general area:
If you're popping by Roaring Fork from Aspen, you won't
 
be the only one, and close by you find Slaughterhouse Gulch which is a tremendous place to stop by. Good hiking is available along the Chapman Trail, and you can never get enough of the delightful skiing at Aspen Mountain. This river is a wonderful place to visit. Go for a hike on the Sawyer Lake Trail. At Roaring Fork you don’t see much precipitation. July is the wettest month with most rain, and February is the month with the least moisture. Summertime brings highs in the 80's to Roaring Fork, and throughout the night it cools down to the 40's. The winter comes with highs in the 30's, and after the sun is down during the winter temperatures at Roaring Fork drop into the 0's.
