  The natural beauty of Colorado and the cool fresh water make the trip here worthwhile. This section of Roaring Fork in Eagle County is 4.4 miles long and is a class III+ section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. If you'll be staying in a hotel you're in luck, lodging is available very near the river, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. There are
    plenty of other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well. A good workout and just hanging out with mother nature have a lot of people coming here. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both,
doesn't matter, this area has a large number of paddling places. If you're coming from Edwards it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Colorado are often tougher than in other states, so better not forget that many runs in this state are not easy.

Hiking
 
is a popular thing to do around Roaring Fork; Blue Creek Trail is a fine local trail. Whitnach Falls is always fun to check out; this is a popular site for folks from Basalt. This river is always fun. Really splendid skiing awaits you at Buttermilk. Throughout the days of summer highs here at Roaring Fork get into the 80's, and during summer nights temperatures are in the 50's. During the winter highs are in the 30's, and nighttime lows at Roaring Fork throughout the wintertime generally drop into the 0's. Roaring Fork gets very little rainfall. The month of April is the wettest with most of the rain, and the driest month of the year is June.
