Colorado whitewater, Roaring Fork

Pitkin county, Weller Lake to Difficult Campground section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS V+     3.2 miles
This section of Roaring Fork is 3.2 miles long and it is classified as a class V+ section by American Whitewater. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Colorado is often more difficult than elsewhere, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that quite a few of the sections here are not easy. The starting location is a short drive from Edwards, as you can see on the road map further down. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater
rafting or kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good places. The beautiful scenery of Colorado and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water beats anything. You might have to settle for a hotel
a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This is not the only paddling stretch in this river system, there are others too. This section is quite short so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great attractions for lots of people. The campgrounds here at Roaring Fork are pretty good.

Briefly

about the general area:
The Sawyer Lake Trail offers hiking at its best, and Snowmass has good slopes and a friendly staff. You're sure to stumble upon some great people from Aspen here, and Roaring Fork is right by the Chapman Trail. A river like this is too good to miss. Roaring Fork is frequently a rather dried out spot. During the month of July you get the most rain around here while February is the month with the least amount of precipitation. High temperatures at Roaring Fork during the long summer days are in the 80's. Summer night lows drop down to the 40's.
