Colorado whitewater, San Juan River - East Fork

Archuleta county, East Fork to 160 Bridge section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS III-IV     4 miles

As long as you access the water on public land, or private land with permission, you can float wherever you want...just don't touch the river bed through a stretch of private land. Says Wes

I am a very close relative of the land owners for a significant portion of the East Fork. There is a couple of miles of river that is private land. Using the river or the land without authorization is tresspassing and is illegal. I am by no means
giving you permission to use it. I am simply stating the facts. Please respect the property line and stay on public lands. Other than that enjoy your time in CO and happy rafting.

This section of San Juan River -
East Fork in Colorado is 4 miles long and has been rated as a class III-IV section by American Whitewater. The natural beauty of Colorado and the cool fresh water have people coming here. A bit of exercise and just being out on the river for a while will have you coming back for more. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way there are lots of good rivers for that around here. For all you camping people there are
campgrounds nearby. This stretch is mid length, it's perfect for a one day trip. Whitewater paddling here in the San Juan and Jemez Mountains is a great experience. There are plenty of other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Colorado is often tougher than elsewhere, so better not forget that many of the rivers here are not very forgiving. The starting point is not too far from Durango, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that.
