  This stretch of San Miguel River in Colorado is 7.3 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class III section of whitewater. The nature scenery of Colorado and the playfulness of the water make the trip here worthwhile. There are some good stretches to paddle in this river system, the Silverpick Road to Fall Creek Road stretch is one of them. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, in this
    general area you'll find lots of paddling places. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, it's good length for a morning trip. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Montrose, as you can see
on the road map further down. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. Great exercise and spending some quality time in nature have people coming from far and near. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Colorado tend to be more challenging than the national average, so keep in mind that lots of rivers here are not for beginners. You can pitch a tent or park  
your RV at a nearby campground. The wild scenery of the Uncompahgre Plateau Mountains is great.

Briefly about the general area:
There's perfect hiking along the Alder Creek Trail, and the best way to spend a winter day is on the slopes of nearby Telluride. You completely should love the Uncompahgre Plateau Mountains. The Wilson Mesa Trail offers hiking at its best; there are plenty of folks from Telluride here. Lots of fun awaits you along this river. San Miguel River is typically a reasonably waterless place. Of all the months in a year July is the one with the most rain, and June is when it's the driest.
