Colorado whitewater, South Platte River

Jefferson Douglas county, Deckers to confluence with North Fork section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS I-III     12 miles
The starting point is not too far from Denver-Aurora, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. The wonderful Colorado scenery and the playfulness of the water make the trip here worthwhile. The Deckers to confluence with North Fork section of South Platte River is 12 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class I-III section of whitewater. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive
a short distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. The Deckers to confluence with North Fork section is one of many paddling sections in this river system. Whitewater
rafting and kayaking in this state is often more difficult than elsewhere, so keep in mind that many of the rivers here are not very forgiving. When you're paddling down a Front Range river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this area has a large number of paddling spots. If you hurry you can run this stretch in a day but why not make it an
overnighter, so pack your camping stuff. Getting some good exercise and just hanging out with mother nature are sure to keep you coming back for more. The campgrounds here at South Platte River are pretty good.

Briefly about the general area:
Going for a hike on the South Manitou Park Trail is always a good adventure, and there are plenty of people from Sedalia here at South Platte River. Life's too short to enjoy all the amusing stuff in the Front Range. A good spot in close proximity to South Platte River is Dell Gulch, and a trip to Pike National Forest is a fine idea.
