  The nature scenery of Colorado and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream have people coming here. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Denver-Aurora, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. This section of South Platte River is 0.5 miles long and is a class II-III section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. No shortage of good hotels, but if you donít have reservations
    you might end up sleeping in your car. This river system is full of great paddling sections, the Confluence of Cherry Creek and South Platte section is just one of them. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this
is an area with plenty of rivers for that. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Colorado are often more challenging than in other states, so better not forget that rivers here are less forgiving. This is an extremely short section so better bring some good walking shoes.

This is a popular spot for people from Denver.
When you're here at South Platte River it's always fun to visit Chatfield Lake State Recreation Area; Sanderson Gulch is another pleasant site to check out nearby. This is such a wonderful river. Roxborough State Park is a magnificent site to stretch your legs a bit. South Platte River is mostly a reasonably dried out place. Of all the months in a year May is the one with the most rain, and January meanwhile is the driest month. Throughout the warm days of summer, highs usually are in the 80's at South Platte River. Through the moonlight hours it's generally in the 50's. The wintertime brings highs down to the 40's with temperatures at South Platte River dipping down into the 10's throughout winter nights.
