Colorado whitewater, South Platte River - North Fork

Park Jefferson county, Bailey to Pine section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS IV-V     10.5 miles
If you're coming from Boulder it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. The natural beauty of Park/Jefferson County and the cool fresh water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. Getting some good exercise and spending some quality time in nature will make you glad you came. If you have the time you can make this a two day
trip, so why not pack your sleeping bag too. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling rivers. The Bailey to Pine stretch
is one of many paddling stretches in this river system. The Bailey to Pine stretch of South Platte River - North Fork is 10.5 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class IV-V section of whitewater. The average Colorado whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be harder to run than those in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that the rivers in this state are less manageable. Not too many hotels nearby,
you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. The wild scenery of the Front Range is great. The campgrounds here at South Platte River - North Fork are pretty good.

Briefly about the general area:
A journey to Holmes Gulch is always fun, and the cheerful people of Pine like to hang out close by. And that's not all the things to do here in the Front Range. Take a hike on the Pine Ridge Trail; a trip to Pike National Forest revives the soul. Coming to this river is always a good idea. Hiking along the Rolling Creek Trail is nice fun.
