The beautiful scenery of Middlesex/ New Haven County and the cool fresh water will make you feel     great. The Summer Hill Road to Green Hill Road section of Hammonasset River is 2 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class I-II section. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. No shortage of good hotels, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This is one of a small number of paddling stretches in this river system, there are a few others too. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this is an area with not too many other spots for that. The starting location is a short drive from Hartford-West Hartford-East Hartford, if you're not familiar with the area there's   a road map further down the page. This stretch is short so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over. Briefly about the general area: Everybody loves Hammonasset Beach State Park, and nothing beats kicking back at Circle Beach. Going for a hike on the Mattabesset Trail is always a great adventure, and you'll meet a lot of people from Madison here. The surroundings of this river have so much to offer. There are good locations to look at along the West Woods Trail, and there's no such thing as a bad day of skiing at nearby Powder Ridge. Enjoy a lazy day on the beach at East Rive Beach; Chatfield Hollow State Park is a magnificent place.
