There have been at least 2 whitewater kayak deaths in recent years Says SteveT Just ran this stretch twice in the last two weeks. The unbelievable amount of rain has made this river run like a furious 3-4 creek. Some of the best kayaking I have experienced in CT to date. Best rapids are at the top bridge and going under the railroad bridge further     down. Too much hooting and hollering last night, this thing was so much fun! Says L Desmond The Bridge in Cannondale to Mouth stretch of Norwalk River is 8 miles long and has been rated as a class II section by American Whitewater. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more forgiving, so if you're not from around here don't forget that the rivers in this state are less demanding. The beautiful scenery of Connecticut and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water make the trip here worthwhile. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. The Bridge in Cannondale to Mouth section is one of a few paddling   sections in this river system. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, around here you won't find a large number of other spots. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, it's perfect for a one day trip. Getting a good workout and just hanging out with mother nature will make you glad you came. Briefly about the general area: Putnam Memorial Park is a great place, and a day at charming Marvin Beach in the vicinity of Norwalk River is a tremendous thing to do.
