Connecticut whitewater, Quinebaug River Windham county, Below Route 6 section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS III     0.5 miles   Why is this river so badly contaminated with tires and such?  There should be a massive clean-up.  My son and I kayaked it last year and I couldn't believe the stuff thrown in this beautiful river. This stretch of Quinebaug River in Connecticut is 0.5 miles long and is a class III section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The campgrounds here at Quinebaug River are pretty good. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way there are not so many other good spots for that around here. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Connecticut are easier than the national norm, so keep in mind that a lot of the rivers in this state are suitable for beginners. There are plenty of hotels here if you want to spend a night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up   sleeping in your car. This stretch is very short so no need to bring snacks. There are a few other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well. Briefly about the general area: A tour to Mashamoquet Brook State Park invigorates the soul, and Quinebaug River is a location with many visitors from Danielson. Everybody loves Hopeville Pond State Park. Do pay a visit to Quinebaug & Shetucket Rivers Valley National Heritage Corridor since you're here at Quinebaug River, and do take a hike on the Walkabout Trail. Taking a little tour to nearby Nashawaug is a good idea, and Quinebaug River is right by the Border Trail.
