  The natural beauty of Hartford County and the water flowing gracefully down Roaring Brook River have people coming here. The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Connecticut are often more forgiving than in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that many runs in this state are very easy. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Hartford-West Hartford-East Hartford, as you can see on the road map further down.
    Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of rivers for that. A bit of exercise and spending some quality time in nature are sure to keep you coming back for more. You
can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. This is a pretty short section so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over. This stretch of Roaring Brook River in Hartford County is 3 miles long and it is classified as a class III-IV section by American Whitewater. Lodging is available near the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This is one of a small number of paddling sections  
in this river system, there are a few others too.

Briefly about the general area:
Hurd State Park is worth a visit if you're at Roaring Brook River, and going for a hike along the Washington Trail will let you absorb the natural beauty of this neighborhood. Dinosaur State Park is a splendid spot to go if you're at Roaring Brook River; you can have a good hiking adventure along the Mattabesset Trail. This river is so good. People from South Glastonbury love to come to Roaring Brook River; a day on the slopes of Powder Ridge is just what you need. Roaring Brook River is a wet site that gets a large amount of precipitation.
