The natural beauty of n/a County and the water flowing gracefully down Rock Creek make the trip here worthwhile. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. Great exercise and just hanging out with mother nature are great reasons to come. This river system is     full of great paddling stretches, the Above Military Road to Pierce Mill Dam stretch is just one of them. There are nice comfortable hotels here, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. If you're coming from Washington-Arlington-Alexandria it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, as you can see on the road map further down. Briefly about the general area: Spend the day on the beach at Bathing Beach if you're here at Rock Creek, and Glen Echo Park is a glorious national park. Rock Creek is not far at all from Washington, and great hiking is available along the Rock Creek Park Bike Trail. This is such   a fun river. Piney Branch Valley is a pleasant site to spend some time at, and Jumpin' Jack Spring is always fun to check out. Hiking is a popular thing to do around Rock Creek; Valley Trail is a good local trail. A pleasant place like George Washington's Grist Mill Historic State Park in close proximity to Rock Creek is too good to leave out. The annual precipitation here at Rock Creek is about average. The month with most of the rain is May, and the driest month of the year is February. Summertime highs at Rock Creek regularly tend to be in the 80's; the nighttime is slightly chillier of course, frequently in the 60's.
