  Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Georgia is often tougher than elsewhere, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that rivers here are less forgiving. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Atlanta-Sandy Springs-Marietta, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just hanging out with mother nature have people coming from far and near. This is one of a small
    number of paddling sections in this river system, there are a few others too. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find lots of paddling spots. There are many good hotels to choose
from, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This is a somewhat short section so better bring some good walking shoes. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. The Anneewakee Road to GA Route 166 stretch of Annewakee River is 3.5 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class II-III+(IV) section. The wonderful Georgia scenery and the water flowing gracefully  
down Annewakee River are reasons enough to come here and paddle.

Briefly about the general area:
People from Douglasville love to come to Annewakee River, and Sweetwater Creek State Park is a fine spot to go. At Annewakee River through the warm days of summer highs are in the 80's while overnight lows are commonly in the 60's. The cold days of the wintertime come with highs in the 40's; overnight lows throughout the winter for Annewakee River tend to be in the 20's. The high level of rainfall makes Annewakee River a pretty wet location. Most of the rain falls all through March; the driest of the months is October.
