  The average Georgia whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be harder to run than those in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that rivers here are not as easy as elsewhere. The starting point is not too far from Athens-Clarke County, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. This stretch of Apalachee River in Georgia is 55.8 miles long and is according to American Whitewater
    a class I-III section of whitewater. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. A bit of exercise and a chance to
spend some time outdoors are great attractions for lots of people. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this area has a large number of paddling spots. Now this is a pretty long section, so make sure you pack enough food along with your camping gear. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. There are so many stretches to paddle in this river system, the GA Route 81 to Oconee River stretch  
is just one of many. The natural beauty of Georgia and the cool fresh water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle.

Briefly about the general area:
During your spree to Apalachee River you'll meet some people from Good Hope for sure. Don't leave Apalachee River without visiting Hard Labor Creek State Park. For the period of the summertime, highs usually are in the 80's at Apalachee River with overnight lows in the 60's. During the wintertime highs are frequently in the 50's, and after the sun is down throughout the winter temperatures at Apalachee River drop into the 30's.
