The Chief McIntosh Lake to GA 42 stretch of Big Sandy Creek in Butts County is 0.51 miles long and it is classified as a class III-IV section by American Whitewater. The beautiful scenery of Georgia and the water flowing gracefully down Big Sandy Creek beats anything. The campgrounds here at Big Sandy Creek are pretty good. Getting your paddling     muscles activated and just being out on the river for a while will make you glad you came. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so you'd better keep in mind that rivers here are less forgiving. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this area has a pretty small number of paddling rivers. This is an extremely short stretch so better bring some good walking shoes. There are some good hotels near the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Briefly about the general area: Places like High Falls State   Park are perfect to visit, and Big Sandy Creek is not far at all from Flovilla. Take a hike on the Kinnard Horse Trail, and Indian Springs State Park is a delightful place to stretch your legs a bit. This river has so much to offer. Why not take a refreshing hike along the Ocmulgee River Trail. Big Sandy Creek is a wet place that gets a great deal of rainfall. Of all the months in a year March is the one with the most rain; October is the month with the least moisture. At Big Sandy Creek throughout the warmest time of the year highs are in the 80's with night lows in the 60's. The cold days of the wintertime come with highs in the 50's, and after the sun is down throughout the wintertime temperatures at Big Sandy Creek dip into the 30's.
