CLASS II     7 miles
  The Highway 28 Putin to Earl's Ford section of Chattooga River is 7 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class II section. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Georgia is often tougher than elsewhere, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many of the sections here are not safe for beginners. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Seneca, as you can see on the road map further down. The nature scenery
    of Rabun GA / Oconee SC County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream have people coming here. This is a pretty decent length section, it's perfect for a one day trip. If you're a camper you can camp
at one of the great campgrounds nearby. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. Getting a good workout and just being out on the river for a while are sure to keep you coming back for more. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you'll find a large number of good places. The river winds through  
the Blue Ridge Mountains and you get great scenery. The Highway 28 Putin to Earl's Ford section is one of many paddling sections in this river system.

Briefly about the general area:
A nice place like Oconee State Park close to Chattooga River is too wonderful to leave out, and Big Shoals is a great local attraction. You'll truly wish for more hours in a day to enjoy all the enjoyable stuff in the Blue Ridge Mountains. You can never get enough of the splendid skiing at Scaly Mountain; Big Shoals is also a splendid site to discover. This river is so good. You're sure to run into some wonderful people from Mountain Rest here, and there is a great hiking trail close by called the Three Forks Trail.
