Georgia whitewater, Chattooga River

Rabun GA Oconee SC county, Route 76 Bridge to Tugaloo Lake Boat Ramp section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS II-IV+(V)     5.2 miles
If you're coming from Toccoa it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Georgia tend to be more challenging than the national average, so don't forget that lots of rivers here are not for beginners. This section of Chattooga River in Rabun GA / Oconee SC County is 5.2 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater
as a class II-IV+(V) section. A good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors have people coming from far and near. Whitewater paddling here in the Blue Ridge Mountains is a great experience. There aren’t any hotels
right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This is not the only paddling section in this river system, there are others too. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, good for a one day paddling trip. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of
spots for that. The beautiful scenery of Georgia and the water flowing gracefully down Chattooga River are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby.

Briefly about the general area:
There are good places to discover along the Bartram Trail, and Woodall Shoals is a fine place to spend some time. This place, the Blue Ridge Mountains, has so much outdoors entertaining stuff. Lots of people from Lakemont come to Chattooga River, and you can go for a hike on the Chattooga Trail. If you come to this river you will have a good time for sure.
