CLASS I-II(III) 32 miles
|
| |
The Coppermine to Lake Lanier stretch of Chestatee River is 32 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class I-II(III) section. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more challenging than the national average, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many runs in this state are not easy. A section like this is is of course not run in a single day, so it looks like you will be camping |
out. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. If you're coming from Gainesville it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down
| the page. No need to look hard for hotels, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. The wild scenery of the Blue Ridge Mountains is great. The natural beauty of Lumpkin County and the playfulness of the water attract people from near and far. There are plenty of other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this is an area with plenty | |
|
of rivers for that. A bit of exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are sure to keep you coming back for more.
Briefly about the general area: On a nice day at Chestatee River you can take a hike along
the DeSoto Falls Trail, and a good site like Chattahoochee National Forest is too good to leave out. If you want a good time in the great outdoors just come on up to the Blue Ridge Mountains. While you're here at Chestatee
River you can take a hike along the Black Mountain Trail, and a spree here wouldn’t be complete without a spree to close by Vogel State Park.
