The GA Route 5 to Dog River Reservoir section of Dog River is 7 miles long and has been rated as a class III+ section by American Whitewater. The beautiful scenery of Georgia and the playfulness of the water have people coming here. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often more difficult than elsewhere, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that the rivers in this state are less manageable. there are campgrounds nearby. This stretch has has enough mileage, you can easily run it on an afternoon. If you're coming from Atlanta-Sandy Springs-Marietta it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, there's

Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. There are a few other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well. Getting your paddling muscles activated and spending some quality time in nature have people coming from far and near.

The fine folks of Winston like to hang out nearby. Sweetwater Creek State Park is a beautiful place any time of year. During the days of summer highs here at Dog River reach the 80's with nighttime lows in the 60's. For
the period of the wintertime this place gets highs in the 50's, and winter nights come with lows in the 20's to Dog River. Dog River ordinarily gets much rain. The wettest month of the year is regularly March, that's the one that rains the most, and the driest month is October.
