Georgia whitewater, Flat Shoals River

Harris county, GA Route 18 to GA Route 103 section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS II     5 miles

Just trying to get some info on kayaking or canoeing from Hwy 103 to the Chattahoochee River. (Riverview Alabama boat ramp) I would actually like to put in at the Riverview boat ramp and make it a round trip up Flat shoals creek.
Any input would be appreciated.
Thanks Says Larry Forrester

The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Valley, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. If you've been out
of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more demanding, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that lots of rivers here are not for beginners. This stretch is mid length, suitable for
an afternoon trip. A good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors have a lot of people coming here. The wonderful Georgia scenery and the cool fresh water have people coming here. There are some good sections to paddle in this river system, the GA Route 18 to GA Route 103 section is one of them. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with not too many
other places for that. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. The GA Route 18 to GA Route 103 stretch of Flat Shoals River is 5 miles long and is a class II section of whitewater according to American Whitewater.

Briefly about the general area:
People from West Point love to come to Flat Shoals River. All through the warm months at Flat Shoals River temperatures are mostly in the 90's. Through the dark hours of summer temperatures fall down into the 60's.
