The nature scenery of Pickens County and the cool fresh water have people coming here. The starting location is a short drive from Calhoun, as you can see on the road map further down. Lodging is available near the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. according to American Whitewater. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside Georgia you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so if you're not from around here don't forget that lots of rivers here
| are not for beginners. This is a bit of a short stretch so it's not like you're gonna spend hours on the river in one stretch. A bit of exercise and just hanging out with mother nature will make you glad you came. Briefly about the general area: Long Swamp Creek is not far at all from Tate; a tour here wouldn’t be complete without a spree to nearby Amicalola Falls and Lodge State Park. Long Swamp Creek
generally gets much rain. All through the month of March you get the most rain around here, and October on the other hand is the driest. For the duration of the summer at Long Swamp Creek temperatures are mostly in the 80's.
During the dark hours of summer temperatures dip down into the 60's. High temperatures during the winter are normally in the 40's with winter lows in the 20's overnight here at Long Swamp Creek.
