The starting location is a reasonable drive from Seneca, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. The scenic beauty of Rabun County and the cool fresh water are in themselves reasons enough |
to come here to paddle. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. There are plenty of hotels here if you want to spend a night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill
| up quick. A bit of exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great reasons to come. The wild scenery of the Blue Ridge Mountains is great. This section of Overflow Creek in Rabun County is 5 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class IV-V(V+) section. There are a few other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good rivers for that | |
|
around here. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, you can easily run it on an afternoon.
Briefly about the general area: Don't leave Overflow Creek without visiting Black Rock Mountain
State Park, and do take a hike on the Three Forks Trail. Whohoo, so many amusing things in one place! The Blue Ridge Mountains is so good! This is a popular site for folks from Highlands, and a good place close by is Sandy
Gap. This river has it all. The skiing at Scaly Mountain is great, and Oconee State Park is worth stopping at. Hiking along the Burrells Ford Trail is magnificent fun.
