The average Georgia whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be harder to run than those in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that quite a few of the sections here are not easy. The natural beauty of Pickens/Gilmer/Gordon/Murray County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. If you're coming from Calhoun it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, as you can |
see on the road map further down. A bit of exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors have people coming from far and near. This is one of a small number of paddling stretches in this river system, there are a few
| others too. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, you can easily run it on an afternoon. There's camping available near Talking Rock Creek. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way there are lots of good places for that around here.
