Georgia whitewater, Tallulah River

Rabun county, Tate Branch Campground to Coleman River section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS V     3 miles
The scenic beauty of Rabun County and the water flowing gracefully down Tallulah River beats anything. The put-in is not too far from Cornelia, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. This river system is full of great paddling sections, the Tate Branch Campground to Coleman River section is just one of them. The beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains is a great plus for this river. If you're a
camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Georgia are often tougher than in other states, so keep in mind that many of the sections here are not safe
for beginners. Getting some good exercise and just being out on the river for a while are great reasons to come. The Tate Branch Campground to Coleman River section of Tallulah River in Georgia is 3 miles long and it is classified as a class V section by American Whitewater. This is a bit of a short stretch so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this
general area you'll find lots of paddling spots. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick.

Briefly about the general area:
Take a hike on the Stewart Trail, and you unquestionably must have a look at Moccasin Creek State Park while you're here. But wait, there's more amusing stuff to do in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Why not take a refreshing hike along the Hurricane Creek Trail; Black Rock Mountain State Park is both pleasant and pretty. This river is so perfect. Very charming scenery and great skiing is what you get at Sky Valley.
