Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more challenging than the national average, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that quite a few of the sections here are not easy. The natural beauty of Lumpkin County and the water flowing gracefully down Yahoola Creek have people coming here. A bit of exercise and just hanging out with mother nature have people coming from far and near. The campgrounds here at Yahoola Creek are pretty good. The river winds through the Blue Ridge Mountains and you get great scenery. If you'll be staying in a hotel you're in luck, lodging is available very near the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a large number of paddling spots. The US 19 to Chestatee   River section is one of a few paddling sections in this river system. On this section you do get some distance, suitable for an afternoon trip. Briefly about the general area: Vogel State Park is a beautiful site any time of year, and this is a popular place for folks from Dahlonega. You'll really wish for more hours in a day to enjoy all the exciting stuff in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Don't leave Yahoola Creek without first going for a hike along the DeSoto Falls Trail. Go for a hike on the Black Mountain Trail. Summertime highs at Yahoola Creek ordinarily tend to be in the 80's, and the overnight is a tad colder of course, typically in the 60's.
