The nature scenery of Idaho County and the water flowing gracefully down Hard Creek are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more demanding, so keep in mind that many of the rivers here are not very forgiving. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. |
This section of Hard Creek in Idaho is 2 miles long and has been rated as a class IV-V section by American Whitewater. Getting a good workout and just being out on the river for a while will make you glad you came. The starting
| point is not too far from Lewiston, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good places for that around here. This is a bit of a short stretch so better bring some good walking shoes. Creek confluence section is one of them. The river winds through the Salmon River Mountains and you get great scenery.
Briefly about the general area: Hard Creek is right by the Lava Butte Trail, and what would
winter be without some skiing at Brundage Mountain. All year is a glorious time in the Salmon River Mountains if you fancy the outdoors. If you wish for a little side spree, try Bascom Canyon It's always glorious to pop
by Tepee Springs. This river is a great place to visit. Here at Hard Creek you'll almost certainly meet some people from Pollock. Summertime highs at Hard Creek generally tend to be in the 90's; all through summer nights temperatures are in the 50's.
