The scenic beauty of Clearwater County and the water flowing gracefully down Kelly Creek will make you feel great. The put-in is not too far from Missoula, as you can see on the road map further down. The Clayton Creek to Kelly Forks Campground section of Kelly Creek in Clearwater County is 10 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class III-IV section. rafting or kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling places. The beautiful Bitterroot Range scenery is an added bonus. If you hurry you can run this stretch in a day but why not make it an overnighter,
| so go ahead and pack your camping stuff. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. The campgrounds here at Kelly Creek are pretty good. The Clayton Creek to Kelly Forks Campground section is one of a few paddling sections in this river system. so better not forget that many of the rivers here are not very forgiving. Getting some good exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors have a lot of people coming here.
Briefly about the general area: Clearwater
National Forest is a delightful place to stop by on a wonderful day. For the period of the summer highs here at Kelly Creek get into the 80's, and all through summer nights temperatures are in the 40's. The wintertime comes
with highs in the 30's, and winter nights come with lows in the 10's to Kelly Creek. Kelly Creek gets very little rain. The month of January is the wettest with most of the snow while July is commonly the driest month.
