The starting location is a short drive from Lewiston, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. The wonderful Idaho scenery and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water have people coming here. This     section is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so pack your camp stove. Getting a good workout and just being out on the river for a while are great attractions for lots of people. This is one of a small number of paddling sections in this river system, there are a few others too. The beauty of the Salmon River Mountains is a great plus for this river. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. The average Idaho whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be harder to run than those in other states, so if you're   not from around here don't forget that a large number of rivers in this state are not easy. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a large number of paddling places. Briefly about the general area: Hiking is a popular thing to do around Little Salmon River; Lava Butte Trail is a good local trail. This is a popular location for folks from Pollock, and the Broken Leg Trail offers hiking at its best. If you come to this river you will have a good time for sure. At Little Salmon River during the warm days of summer highs are in the 90's. When the night sets in temperatures dip down into the 50's.
