Idaho whitewater, Lochsa River Idaho county, Papoose Creek to Indian Grave Creek section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS III     20 miles   The Papoose Creek to Indian Grave Creek stretch of Lochsa River is 20 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class III section. The scenic beauty of Idaho and the water flowing gracefully down Lochsa River make the trip here worthwhile. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. Getting some good exercise and just hanging out with mother nature are sure to keep you coming back for more. Since you're on this     site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way there are lots of good places for that around here. If you hurry you can run this section in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so why not pack your camping stuff too. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Idaho are often tougher than in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that rivers here are not as easy as elsewhere. The put-in location is a short drive from Missoula, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. There are plenty of other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well. There aren’t any   hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. The river winds through the Bitterroot Range and you get great scenery. Briefly about the general area: Take a hike on the Colgate Licks Nature National Recreation Trail; Clearwater National Forest is both good and wonderful. And if that's not enough there's a load more cool things to do in the Bitterroot Range. Summertime at Lochsa River comes with high temperatures in the 80's while overnight lows are typically in the 40's.
