Idaho whitewater, Marys Creek

Owyhee county, to Sheep Creek section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS III-IV     6 miles
The to Sheep Creek stretch of Marys Creek is 6 miles long and is a class III-IV section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Idaho is often tougher than elsewhere, so keep in mind that rivers here are not as easy as elsewhere. The scenic beauty of Idaho and the water flowing gracefully down Marys Creek are reasons enough to come here and paddle. There are campgrounds quite near the river where
you can camp. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Mountain Home, as you can see on the road map further down. This stretch is mid length, good for a one day paddling trip. A bit of exercise and spending some quality
time in nature are great reasons to come. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way in this general area you won't find many other paddling spots. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. There are some good sections to paddle in this river system, the to Sheep Creek
section is one of them.

Briefly about the general area:
Going for a hike on the Tindall Trail is always a magnificent adventure, and there are good places to discover along the Cedar Tree Trail. It is very dried up here at Marys Creek generally. The month with most of the rain is November, and July meanwhile is the driest month. Summertime at Marys Creek comes with high temperatures in the 90's with night lows in the 50's. Through the winter highs are mostly in the 30's with temperatures at Marys Creek dipping down into the 20's through winter nights.
