If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more demanding, so better not forget that a lot of the rivers here are not suitable for beginners. The put-in is not too far from Missoula, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. This stretch of Moose Creek in Idaho County is 22 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class III-IV section. Whitewater |
paddling here in the Bitterroot Range is a great experience. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. This stretch has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so pack your sleeping bag. There aren’t any hotels right nearby
| but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. The wonderful Idaho County scenery and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water beats anything. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are sure to keep you coming back for more. Briefly about the general area: There's good hiking along the Colgate Licks Nature National Recreation Trail. The yearly
precipitation here at Moose Creek is about average. January is the wettest month with most snow, and July is the month with the least moisture. During the summer months at Moose Creek temperatures are regularly in the 80's,
and the overnight is slightly colder of course, regularly in the 50's. For the duration of the winter this place gets highs in the 30's, and overnight lows through the wintertime for Moose Creek tend to be in the 20's.
