The West Branch Pack River to Tavern stretch of Pack River in Bonner/ Boundary County is 21.6 miles long and has been rated as a class I-III section by American Whitewater. A bit of exercise and spending some quality time in nature have people coming from far     and near. The put-in is not too far from Coeur d'Alene, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way around here you won't find a large number of other rivers. If you have the time you can make this a two day trip, so go ahead and pack your camp stove. The nature scenery of Idaho and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water attract people from near and far. There are a few other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well. Briefly about the general area: There's no   such thing as a bad day of skiing at nearby Schweitzer. Near Pack River you find the White Mountain Trail which is a splendid hiking trail; during your visit here you'll meet some people from Ponderay for sure. This river is always fun. For the period of the summer at Pack River temperatures are regularly in the 80's, and through summer nights temperatures are in the 40's. High temperatures during the wintertime are normally in the 20's, and night lows during the wintertime for Pack River tend to be in the 10's. A typical amount of precipitation falls here at Pack River. The wettest month of the year is mostly December, that's the one that snows the most while July is mostly the driest month.
