The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Idaho are often more challenging than in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that many runs in this state are not easy. The starting location is a short drive from Missoula, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page.     This stretch has has enough mileage, suitable for an afternoon trip. The Trapper Flat to Birch Creek stretch is one of many paddling stretches in this river system. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find lots of paddling places. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. The beautiful Salmon River Mountains scenery is an added bonus. Getting some good exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great reasons to come. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. This stretch of Panther Creek in Idaho is 8 miles long and it   is classified as a class III-V section by American Whitewater. Briefly about the general area: A spree to Salmon National Forest revives the spirit, and Fritzer Gulch is in the vicinity, and is a magnificent site. Not enough hours in a day to enjoy the Salmon River Mountains. Good hiking is available along the Hot Springs Trail, and you're sure to stumble upon some fine people from Shoup here. This is such a fun river. Don't leave Panther Creek without first going for a hike along the Birch Creek Trail. Not much rain falls here at Panther Creek. The month of June is the wettest with most of the rain while February is the month with the least amount of precipitation.
