The Lava Hot Springs to PVC diversion stretch of Portneuf River in Bannock/ Caribou County is 6.1 miles long and has been rated as a class I-V section by American Whitewater. The scenic beauty of Bannock/ Caribou County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water make the trip here worthwhile. less forgiving. There are many good hotels to choose from, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. This is not the only paddling section in this river system, there are others too. You might be into whitewater
| rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, in this general area you'll find lots of paddling spots. The put-in is not too far from Pocatello, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. This is a pretty decent length section, it's good length for a morning trip. Getting some good exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors will make you glad you came.

Hot Springs love to come to Portneuf River; Pebble Creek is a good local ski area. At Portneuf River through the months of summer highs are in the 80's. Once the sun is down it falls down to the 50's. The winter brings highs
down to the 30's; after the sun is down through the winter temperatures at Portneuf River descend into the 10's. Portneuf River gets very little rain. For the duration of May this area sees the most rain; July meanwhile is the driest month.
