The starting location is a short drive from Moscow, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. This stretch of Potlatch River in Idaho is 15 miles long and it is classified as a class II-V section by American Whitewater. The wonderful Idaho scenery and the water flowing gracefully down Potlatch River attract people from near and far. This is one of a small number of paddling stretches in this river system, |
there are a few others too. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way around here you won't find a large number of other places. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside Idaho you
| might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so keep in mind that a lot of the rivers here are not suitable for beginners. If you hurry you can run this stretch in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so why not pack your sleeping bag too. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. Getting a good workout and just being out on the river for a while are sure to keep you coming back for more. You might | |
|
have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. The river winds through the Clearwater Mountains and you get great
scenery.
Briefly about the general area: You'll meet a lot of people from Deary here; going for a hike on the Sand Mountain Lookout Trail is always a fine adventure. There's no way somebody can get bored here
in the Clearwater Mountains. For the duration of the warm days of summer here at Potlatch River, high temperatures regularly reach the 80's while overnight lows are commonly in the 40's.
