This stretch of Priest River is 23 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class II-III section of whitewater. The beautiful scenery of Idaho and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often tougher than in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that quite a few of the sections here are not easy. This stretch |
has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so why not pack your camping stuff too. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem and if you make reservations in advance
| you're all set. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. The starting point is not too far from Coeur d'Alene, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. A bit of exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great reasons to come. There are some good stretches to paddle in this river system, the Upper Priest River to Priest River Town stretch is one of them.

Hanna Flast Nature Trail offers hiking at its best, and the good folks of Laclede like to hang out nearby. There's nice hiking along the Chipmunk Rapids National Recreation Trail. From a precipitation point of view Priest
River is a rather normal location. The wettest month of the year is ordinarily December, that's the one that snows the most, and the driest month of the year is July. During the months of summer at Priest River highs are
commonly in the 80's, and all through the night it cools down to the 40's. All through the winter highs are in the 30's while the cold winter nights at Priest River are in the 10's.
