The starting location is a short drive from Missoula, as you can see on the road map further down. The wonderful Idaho scenery and the playfulness of the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Idaho tend to be more challenging than the national average, so keep in mind that many runs in this state are not easy. settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. The beauty of the Bitterroot Range is a great plus for this river. This river system has
| a few good paddling sections and the North Fork to Middle Fork section is one of them. The North Fork to Middle Fork stretch of Salmon River in Idaho is 39 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class III section. Now this is a pretty long section, so it looks like you will be camping out. Briefly about the general area: Salmon National Forest is a glorious spot to pop by on a gorgeous day, and you can go for a hike on the
Copper Mountain Trail. These mountains rock, just explore all the entertaining things to do in the Bitterroot Range. A good site right next door to Salmon River is Cohen Gulch; don't leave Salmon River without first going
for a hike along the Sheepeater Trail. If you come to this river you will have a good time for sure. Pine Creek Rapids is a wonderful local attraction.
