Idaho whitewater, Salmon River

Idaho county, White Bird to Snake River confluence section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS II-IV     50 miles
If you're coming from Lewiston it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, as you can see on the road map further down. The wonderful Idaho County scenery and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream have people coming here. A good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors have a lot of people coming here. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, and if you make reservations
in advance you're all set. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside Idaho you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that lots of rivers here are not for
beginners. The White Bird to Snake River confluence stretch is one of a few paddling stretches in this river system. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. A stretch this long is of course too much for a one day trip, so make sure you pack enough food along with your camping gear. When you're paddling down a Wallowa Mountains river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking
or both, doesn't matter, this is an area with plenty of spots for that. This stretch of Salmon River is 50 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class II-IV section of whitewater.
