  If you're coming from Twin Falls it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, as you can see on the road map further down. If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more demanding, so you'd better keep in mind that many of the sections here are not safe for beginners. The beauty of the Salmon River Mountains is a great plus for this river. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have
    to drive a bit to get to one, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. The wonderful Custer County scenery and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are in themselves reasons enough
to come here to paddle. This stretch has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so go ahead and pack your sleeping bag. Great exercise and just being out on the river for a while are great attractions for lots of people. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of places for that. This river system is full of great paddling stretches, the Upper  
road end to Salmon River stretch is just one of them. The Upper road end to Salmon River stretch of Salmon River - Yankee Fork is 26.8 miles long and is a class IV-V section of whitewater according to American Whitewater.

Briefly about the general area:
Slaughterhouse Gulch is a great spot to stop by nearby. It is very dry here at Salmon River - Yankee Fork ordinarily. The wettest month of the year is usually December, that's the one that snows the most, and July is when it's the driest. Summertime highs at Salmon River - Yankee Fork commonly tend to be in the 70's, and during the night it cools down to the 30's.
