  The scenic beauty of Idaho and the cool fresh water attract people from near and far. This section of Smith Creek in Boundary County is 6 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class IV-V+ section. There arenít any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. The average whitewater rafting or kayaking river
    tends to be a bit harder to master in this state than those in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many of the rivers here are not very forgiving. A good workout and just hanging out with mother
nature will make you glad you came. This river system has a few good paddling sections and the Smith Creek Bridge to above Smith Creek Falls section is one of them. On this section you do get some distance, you can easily run it on an afternoon. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this area has a pretty small number of paddling spots. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. The put-in  
location is a short drive from Coeur d'Alene, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page.

Briefly about the general area:
During your trip to Smith Creek you'll meet some people from Porthill for sure. Around Smith Creek you donít get a lot of rainfall. The wettest month of the year is ordinarily November, that's the one that rains the most; July meanwhile is the driest month. Summertime brings highs in the 80's to Smith Creek, and throughout the night it cools down to the 50's. High temperatures through the winter are normally in the 30's, and through the dark hours in the wintertime at Smith Creek temperatures dip to the 10's.
