  The average Illinois whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be easier to run than those in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that a lot of the rivers in this state are suitable for beginners. This section of Lusk Creek in Illinois is 4.5 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class I-III section. The nature scenery of Pope County County and the cool fresh water attract people from near and far.
    The starting location is a reasonable drive from Harrisburg, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The Lusk Creek Canyon section is one of a few paddling sections in this river system.
You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this is an area with not too many other places for that. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. This stretch is mid length, good for a one day paddling trip. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. A bit of exercise and a  
chance to spend some time outdoors are sure to keep you coming back for more.
